Essential Cross-Border Checklist
Before arriving at any border control outpost, make sure you have the following hardware and documents prepared inside your vehicle:
Card systems fail often. Carry crisp US Dollars (post-2013) for Zimbabwe/Zambia/UniVisa. Carry South African Rand (ZAR) or NAD cash for the Namibian Visa and local road toll fees.
You need certified registration papers (Logbook), a valid Cross-Border Authority Letter from your rental agency, and a COMESA Yellow Card (regional third-party insurance) alongside cash for local road toll fees or carbon taxes.
Botswana and Zimbabwe strictly enforce minor regulations. Children under 18 must carry an official unabridged birth certificate (translated into English). If only one parent is present, a certified affidavit of consent from the absent parent is mandatory.
When driving through Botswana (e.g., transit corridors near Nata, Maun, or Ngwasha), you will pass permanent **Veterinary Disease Control Checkpoints**.
